Washington: During a dinner at the White House, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize. This significant moment unfolded as both leaders met on a Monday evening, shortly after Trump declared a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, which had been embroiled in a 12-day conflict that began on June 13.
The White House shared that Netanyahu expressed, "President Trump is actively 'forging peace as we speak, in one country and one region after the other.' Therefore, I am honored to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize committee nominating you for this well-deserved accolade."
Netanyahu commended Trump's dedication to achieving peace and security in the Middle East, stating, "I want to convey the gratitude and admiration not just from all Israelis, but from the Jewish community and numerous supporters worldwide for your leadership in the free world and your commitment to a just cause."
In a moment of surprise, Trump responded to the nomination, saying, "This I did not know. Wow, thank you very much. Coming from you, this is particularly meaningful," as he expressed his appreciation to Netanyahu.
While hosting the visiting Israeli Prime Minister, Trump praised both Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, referring to them as long-time friends who have shared significant successes together. He remarked, "It’s an honor to have BB (Benjamin Netanyahu) and Sara with us. Friends of mine for a long time, we’ve achieved tremendous success together, and I believe even greater accomplishments lie ahead."
